Prosecution Solicitor (Solicitors Division)
Prosecution Solicitor positions are professional legal positions in the Solicitors Division of the Office. To be eligible for Prosecution Solicitor positions applicants must be admitted and enrolled as a Solicitor in the State.
Solicitors in the Solicitors Division of the Office of the DPP gain exceptional experience in the theory and practice of Irish criminal law. Ample opportunities exist to develop advocacy skills.
The areas of practice include:
- acting as solicitor for the DPP and working with An Garda Síochána in the preparation and presentation of all indictable criminal prosecutions listed in Dublin City and County
- appearing on behalf of the DPP in criminal prosecutions in the District Courts of the Dublin Metropolitan District and in appeals to the Circuit Court
- acting as solicitor to the DPP in judicial reviews, habeas corpus applications, cases stated and bail applications in the superior courts
Prosecution Solicitors have opportunities for career progression through a number of senior legal professional positions in the Office, subject to service and other relevant requirements as appropriate.
